Are you being affected by increased locum costs?
In November 2011, an article was published in Pulse magazine in
relation to the shortage of locums driving GP practice costs
“through the roof”. A national shortage of locums means that GP
practices are having to pay increased rates through agencies,
rather than being able to rely on independent locums.
This article cites that; according to Rosemary Smith, owner of
medical accounting firm RS Accountancy, “the average GP surgery
spends an estimate of between £5,000 and £20,000 a year on
locums.”
Have you been affected by increased locum
costs?
So this is what Pulse has to say, but is this something that you’ve
noticed in your practice? Are your
locum costs starting to increase? We know that you have a locum
policy already in place with us, but when was the last time that
you reviewed your level of cover given the increase in the cost of
locums? Remember; we can
cover you up to £3,000 per week, so make sure that your policy is
offering the right level of protection for your needs so you’re not
left out-of-pocket should you need to make a claim.
